How much do you like your dress?

16 August, 2010 (21:43) | Other Weddings | By: admin

Hi all,

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I just wanted to gauge how everyone feels about the dress they’ve chose/n. Do you like it? Really like it? Love it? The reason I ask is because I’ve been to a few dress stores and tried on gowns and while I like how many of them look on me and like them in general, I haven’t had a “wow!” moment. I guess I’m a bit picky but I don’t know if I’ll regret going with a dress that’s really nice but doesn’t feel like “the one” or hugely special. I also have limited time and probably have to select one by this week or so. I’m not sure how to approach this.

I loved my dress when I first put it on, to the point where I was in tears imagining FH’s reaction to seeing me in it. After paying the deposit and going away, I started having second thoughts (mainly because between paying the deposit and picking it up, 7 months had passed without getting a chance to see it except online). I love it all over again now, but even more because it’s MINE. It’s hanging in my cupboard and I get goosebumps every time I sneak in to look at it.

I tried on a few dresses and found things that I didn’t like with all of them, they were nice but I wasn’t overly happy with them. I kept wanting to try on another dress until I found something I liked. (Same as how Dandelion explained above about the *next* dress.)
The dress I chose was nothing like I first pictured (which is why everyone should try on every dress they can, as you don’t always end up with the same style you ‘think’ will look good.)
But when I tried the dress on I was so happy with it and loved the curves it gave me. The more I looked in the mirror, the more I fell in love with the dress! (Whilst trying on dresses I went from hiding in the corner change room to trying this dress on and prancing all over the store!)
I am having the same thoughts as Chelle and Malin, where I haven’t seen the dress in a while and am second guessing it, but I keep trying to remember how I felt wearing the dress and not wanting to take it off! (I also got a few sneaky pics of the dress thanks to GM and I keep looking back at them to remind myself that I fell in love while wearing it and I’ll love it again when I’ve got it!)

One will come across that the classic Chinese wedding dress can be a little several through the typical American dress. It can be typically a great deal a lot more decorative, and a great deal a lot more work is put into it. The kind of dress that may be worn usually has something to do with the region that the family is from. Individuals who are from the north may possibly wear the Qi Pao, and individuals who are through the south would wear the Cheongsan. There are various other examples from within china which are shown within the styles of dress, which could be Mongolian, Tibetian, or even Taiwanese. There are several other groups as well which we will not have time to go into.

The dress’s color is also essential. Most generally, women wear red because this signifies happiness. Traditionally, brides usually do not wear white, since white symbolizes death in China. Even so, lately, Chinese brides have begun to embrace Western traditions, and are wearing a lot more white.

A man obtaining married in a classic Chinese wedding is likely going to wear gray or black. These colors are suitable for a man, but on a bride would signify grief. They might also have clothing colored particular to their station, a great deal like western wedding ceremonies. They usually tend not to put on red, and instead wear colors including those who grieve do. This doesn’t mean anything bad; it’s just the way it truly is.

Most Chinese wedding dresses are also embroidered with golden decorations, and it is essential to note that not just every tailor can operate with golden fabric. For this purpose it might be essential to call in a highly skilled cloth worker, and for this reason it might only be the very wealthy Chinese who use any sort of gold embroidery on their wedding dresses.

The modern Chinese wedding dress tradition is said to become coming in the ancient Qing Dynasty, the last dynasty to rule in China. This Dynasty ruled from 1644 to 1912, and was established by the Manchu Clan, still in existence in northeast China these days.

It’s absolutely amazing to look back at the past and see the things that influence who we have become. This is of course true for just about every culture, and not just China. Every single culture has its own traditions and past, and should you look closely at your own culture, you may perhaps come across that it’s not that much different than it was just a few hundred years ago.

There is a whole lot a lot more to this, and in order to locate every piece of facts on the common Chinese wedding dress, you will have to appear back in time and do a great deal of reading. There’s a fascinating story behind everything that is just waiting to become uncovered!
